Attorney & Fiduciary FAQ
What is a USPAP-compliant appraisal, and why does it matter for legal proceedings?
USPAP (the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) is the recognized standard for credible, defensible appraisal reports. Courts, trustees and insurers expect appraisals prepared to this standard because it documents the methodology and reasoning behind the stated value, not just a number. Every report we prepare for a legal or fiduciary matter is USPAP compliant.
What's the difference between fair market value and replacement value?
Fair market value is what a willing buyer would pay a willing seller in the current market, typically used in divorce, probate and bankruptcy matters. Replacement value is the cost to replace an item with a comparable new piece at retail, typically used for insurance. The two numbers can differ significantly for the same piece. We identify which standard your matter requires and state it clearly in the report.
How fast can I get a written appraisal report?
Standard reports are typically completed within a few business days of the examination. If you're working against a filing deadline or a hearing date, let us know when you schedule and we'll prioritize accordingly.
Is Jon Bragman available for expert witness testimony or deposition?
Yes. Jon is available for deposition and expert witness testimony when a matter requires it, and can speak directly to the methodology and standards behind any report he's prepared.
Do you work directly with law firms and fiduciary offices, or only with individual clients?
Both. We regularly work directly with attorneys, trustees, personal representatives and CPAs, as well as with their clients directly. Reports and communication can be addressed to your office, the client, or both, whatever your matter requires.
